Ugh. We’re already halfway through the year. I feel like since I became an adult, time has been moving at lightning speed. I know that’s largely due to the fact that at 22, a year is a much smaller fraction of my life than it was at 12, but that’s not going to stop me from trying to slow the fuck down. Easier said than done when you work 40 hours a week and life is so busy you can’t hardly breathe, but what I can do is introduce novelty into my life wherever I can. I’m visiting new restaurants with my girlfriend instead of ordering take out and watching Drag Race every night, hosting friends in our new home, and trying to spend less time on my goddamn phone.

This is way overdue, but I’ve finally discovered Binchtopia (literally where have you been all my life). My girlfriend and I listened to Disco is Dead (Because of Woke), which bravely ask the question, why is no one partying anymore? It inspired us to throw the most killer housewarming party, mixing different friend groups to give people the opportunity to meet new people organically, because trying to make friends as an adult sucks. We enjoyed a cozy, rainy night in our new apartment, dimly lit with tea candles and warm lamps (see new apartment wishlist for my lighting tips), with 20+ friends mingling. I bounced all over the place, as my hostess duties required, and I can’t even describe the joy in overhearing conversations between people I wouldn’t even have suspected would hit it off. Moral of the story: If you have the kind of space that allows for it, host a house party! And also, listen to Binchtopia.

Moments from May <3

I’m keeping it short and sweet today, primarily because I’m already a day late posting this, so let’s get into this month’s media consumption and other recommendations:

articles:

Violent Desire: party4u, The Great Gatsby, and (the) Green Light by The Life of a Femel - Romantic obsession/objectification. We’ve all got an ex like that right? RIGHT???

how to get smart again by postcards by elle - Very helpful to me as I fight to recover my attention span.

Wikipedia list of common misconceptions - This was a recommendation from elle’s article. Sometimes what you really need to stimulate your brain is a good Wikipedia deep dive.

we’re not bored anymore, and we should be by postcards by elle - A continuation of elle’s “get smart again” series about embracing boredom.

your brain is rotting away, babe by noted, by hannah cao - More anti-brainrot content.

i want to get off the screen, too by milk fed - Are you noticing a theme yet?
